If you love spending hours outside on warm summer nights but hate waking up to dozens of bug bites the next day, keep reading to discover the best essential oils to prevent and soothe bug bites.

One of the worst things you can do to avoid bug bites is to slather your skin in toxic, cancer-causing chemicals.  And you don’t want to go inside to avoid the bugs because spending time outdoors is so beneficial to your emotional, phyical and mental health.

Avoid the toxic chemicals in most commercial bug sprays and turn to Mother Nature instead.

Essential oils can help prevent the bites and also help soothe the inflammation and itching from previous bites.  They can also help speed up the healing process.

Lavender

Lavender is well known for its skin healing properties.  It can also be used to help soothe skin irritated by bug bites.  Lavender is a gentle oil and can usually be applied neat to troubled areas.  If you are new to essential oils, you might want to dilute the essential first in a carrier oil. If using on kids, you should always dilute essential oils.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus can help prevent bites and also help soothe the itching and burning of previous bites. Use a carrier oil when putting eucalyptus on your skin.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree (also known as melaleuca) is also well known for its skin healing benefits.  Tea tree is strong and should be diluted with a carrier oil before applying to your skin.  It will help boost your immune system and speed the healing of bites.  It can also help to prevent bug and insect bites.

Basil

Basil essential oil is an anti-inflammatory oil, so it can help reduce the irritation and swelling around your bug bites. This further helps to help soothe the bite.

No More Itchy Bug Bites Roller Ball Recipe

5ml Roller Bottle⁣
-10 drops of Basil oil⁣
-5 drops of Peppermint oil⁣
-5 drops of Lavender oil⁣
-Fill the remainder with FCO⁣

Essential oil recipe for bug bites

 

DIY Non-Toxic Bug Spray

20-30 drops of TerraShield

10 drops of Lemon oil

10 drops of Eucalyptus oil

Add the above 2-3 oils to a 4oz glass bottle of distilled water with a few drops of FCO for moisture and shake before use.
