Do you brush and floss twice a day and still wish you had a brighter mouth? Are your teeth dulled by your favorite beverages like coffee, tea and red wine?

It’s ironic some healthy foods are also notorious for dulling our pretty smiles. Food and drinks high in antioxidants are also high in pigments and tannins which can stain our teeth.

Many commercial toothpastes, rinses, and whiteners are filled with chemical toxins including fluoride, sodium laurel sulfate, triclosan, hydrated silica, artificial dyes, propylene glycol, and carrageenan (to name just a few).  These chemicals all have proven health dangers and are absorbed into your bloodstream while brushing and rinsing.

Here are three all natural, easy to use remedies to whiten your teeth, freshen your breath and brighten your smile.

Make your own whitening toothpaste
Making your own toothpaste is super easy and inexpensive.

Mix equal amounts of baking soda and coconut oil to form a paste. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (mint and cinnamon are good choices).
Coconut oil is antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti fungal.  Baking soda is a mild abrasive polisher and a pH balancer. Essential oils are optional and have their own unique properties for oral care.

Easy, simple ingredients that are beneficial to your health.  No chemical substances with known health risks.

Brush your teeth with activated charcoal
Activated charcoal will shockingly turn your whole mouth black then leave behind a brighter smile by pulling stains and toxins from your teeth, leaving them whiter, and smoother. It also restores the pH balance of your mouth.

Simply wet your toothbrush, add activated charcoal, and brush.
WARNING: This is very messy and can stain clothing, tile and grout. Be sure to stay over your sink and rinse away the mess quickly.

For fun, you can freak your family out with your black teeth before rinsing 🙂

Use the Oil Pulling Method
This is an ancient method to remove toxins, freshen breath and whiten teeth. This also removes toxins from the blood and improves liver function- bonus!

Swish 1T. coconut oil around in your mouth, pulling it between your teeth for 3-4 minutes. This should be done first thing in the morning before brushing your teeth. IMPORTANT- do not swallow! The oil will be full of toxins after swishing for several minutes. Spit the oil out in the trash can.  Then rinse and brush your teeth as normal.  It is even better to rinse with baking soda or salt water.

I have found fractionated coconut oil like this one to be the most pleasant in terms of taste and mouth feel.

There you have 3 easy ways to a whiter, brighter, fresher smile. I have personally tried all 3 methods and noticed an immediate difference in the way my teeth looked and felt.

Which one will you try?
