You Are Beautiful

Do you believe in the law of attraction?  Do you believe you can change your reality by changing your mindset?

While being interviewed by Tony Robbins, Dr. Wayne Dyer responded to a statement and left a powerful message for us all. When Tony questioned him about his difficult childhood, Dr. Dyer’s response was that he really didn’t have a difficult childhood. His father was abusive and his childhood had everything we would associate with a difficult time, but he didn’t know any different. So for him, it was a normal childhood. He certainly did not let anything that happened in his childhood keep him from making a huge contribution to the world! Similarly, we learn at a very young age to be inquisitive of our bodies. When a child shows curiosity towards moles and other birth marks, you can shape their perception by referring to them as beauty marks. You will help them to appreciate their uniqueness and see their beauty!

The point being that we are what we focus on.

When something unexpected happens to us, we have the option to perceive it as something terrible or as a lesson and a means to move us forward. For example, say you started a new business, and it failed. You struggled and struggled trying to get back on your feet again. You went out to find a job and you were rejected by one company after another and you couldn’t get hired, so you kept looking. Then you finally got hired for your dream job. This dream job provided you with excellent benefits, a great location, outstanding use of your abilities and talents, and you absolutely loved what you did without the stress of being self-employed. You could look at this one of two ways. You could see it as the most miserable time of your life, the time you failed and were rejected, and you could attach that to your perception and vision of yourself. You would then think of yourself as a failure who just happened to wander into a good job. Or, you can see it as a series of events with powerful lessons leading up to one spectacular event that would not have happened otherwise. Which do you think is going to carry you forward in your life in a better way? The child with birthmarks and moles can either look at herself in disgust, embarrassment and despair, (as many women do with their bodies,) or she can accept her beauty marks and gracefully carry them all her life, knowing how magnificent she is.

The only difference is our perception and focus.

This way of thinking can also have tremendous effects on your interactions, and relationships with others. There are people who always search for the bad in other people. They analyze others until they find their faults, then they dwell upon them. You will always find what you are looking for. If you are looking for the good in someone, you will find it. If you want to obsess over their faults, that is your choice. I would rather see the good in others than focus on their faults. It makes me feel better about mankind. I believe there is good in everyone.

“Our thoughts create our reality — where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go.” -Peter McWilliams

Finally, I will end this with a request that you focus on the good in people. Especially the people you love. Leave behind resentments, leave behind expectations, and just look for what is good. Then, focus on the good in a situation or event. Come back and tell me what you see. Want more tips and resources to live a naturally healthy and authentic life?  Sign up for my newsletter here.
